Anna Considine was one of our most loved members at Coral Leisure Tuam and her passing earlier this year left a void that will never be filled. The staff and members at Coral Leisure Tuam have organised a massive White Collar Boxing event to be held in her memory on Saturday November 10th, 2018 at the Ard Ri House Hotel. The night will be a major fundraising effort for two charities that meant a lot to Anna in Tuam Cancer Care and the Galway Hospice. It is an all ticket event and there is very limited availability of ticketsas there has been a huge pre sale on the event due to its popularity. A great night is in store on roll on November 10th for some cracking contests!!!
Thursday September 27th, 2018 is National Fitness Day and here at Coral Leisure Tuam we are fully supporting the day itself by offering FREE CLASSES ALL DAY, FREE GYM 1-2PM and free swims 2-4PM. Michael and Sheila McGrath are the first ever joint members of the month. They are one of our longest serving members and frequent the centre daily for their swims which they thoroughly enjoy at Coral Leisure Tuam. They always stop for a friendly chat at reception and are living proof that age is only a number as they take great pleasure in their daily exercise routine. Well done Sheila and Michael in being the August members of the month at Coral Leisure Tuam.
The Coral Leisure Tuam member of the month for July 2018 was Lorraine Cleary and fully deseved too. Lorraine has recently learned to swim as well as being an active member in both the gym and classes every single day and what's even more impressive is she is an extremely busy mother who just always makes time for her exercise even when there doesn't appear to be. An honest an extremely determined individual, Lorraine is a credit to herself and great role model for her family and friends and many congratulations on being the July Member Of The Month at Coral Leisure, Tuam.
TUAM man Leo Hynes has his sights set on representing his country at the next Olympics, despite the fact he is legally blind.
Leo Hynes, 46, will compete in his third triathlon this weekend in Belfast which he is hoping takes him one step closer to making the Irish Paralympic team for the Tokyo Games in 2020.
Leo is our much deserved winner of our June Member Of The Month and he epitomises what it means to have a positive outlook on life. Well done Leo and look forward to following your progress.
Well done to Cristina Posada who was our April Member of the Month. Cristina attended classes daily as well as fitting in gym regimes with her best pal Zoe Brislinger and the both always attended the centre in the best spirits and both were examples to all members what a bit of dedication helps you achieve. Well done Cristina and Zoe and hope to see you back in Ireland next year.Cristina is pictured with fitness manager Finton Glynn and Sales and Marketing manager Micheal Turner.
Our March 2018 winner was Sarah Varden who lives in Tuam and has been a long term member of the centre.
Sarah excels at and enjoys all aerobic classes and has even frequented aqua aerobics recently so congrats Sarah a well deserved member of the month for March.
“Energy awareness today, Strategies for tomorrow”
If you've ever visited an indoor pool, and enjoyed the year-round warmth of the water, you've probably never even considered the cost of heating a volume of water and air that size.
But as the operators of any pool are aware, the energy costs are amongst the highest costs in running the business.
As such Coral Leisure, in partnership with Limerick County Council, are always trying to reduce the energy costs to ensure the sustainability of Askeaton Pool & Leisure and to reduce our carbon footprint.
Uniquely Coral Leisure has a dedicatedEnergy Champion for the whole group, and led by this champion, Coral Leisure sought out assistance from ESB Smart Energy Services. Their brief was straightforward, if not simple: find ways to reduce annual energy consumption. This meant cutting usage from 1,200 kWh/m2 to 900 kWh/m2
"Energy is the biggest cost to the Leisure Centre after wages. We create about 4,500 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year around the 9 Centres.
Last year we cut that by 400 tonnes and we expect to cut another 400 tonnes this year.
The 4 biggest users of energy are the air circulating fans, the pool circulating water pumps, the sauna/steam room and the lights."
Siobhan Tighe, Managing Director of the Coral Leisure Group, explains what we do "Coral Leisure puts energy and environmental awareness to the forefront of their operations. We conduct regular energy conservation audits and evaluations of our centres and our Energy Management Strategies are in place across the group. In addition we design and implement relevant site specific solutions, ensuring industry best practice and continuing financial savings to our clients. We advise on relevant Government grant availability and assist in the application process on your behalf."
In the last year alone Coral Leisure has undertaken projects in every one of the centres aimed at reducing energy costs and increasing energy efficiency. Simple measures like installing new Pool Covers and installing modern energy efficient LED lighting in all centres can make an initial huge difference to energy costs.
Coral Leisure also undertakes more complex projects such as installing DestratFans, (which push warm air back down into pool halls keeping heating costs down)and computerised Business Energy Management Systems (which automatically control heating, lighting, pump speeds and air handling depending on the time of day and customer usage levels).
Coral Leisure also believes all of these measures go hand in hand with providing ongoing staff training in the importance of energy saving. This ensures the optimum return on investment on all energy saving projects.
A feature unique to Coral Leisure; each centre has a dedicated Energy Champion who is responsible for taking accurate energy readings on a weekly basis and tracking them, as well as monitoring all equipment so that scheduled maintenance can be carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the effectiveness of all machinery from an energy saving perspective.

Niall Tierney pictured receiving his trophy from fitness manager Finton Glynn for winning the first ever Coral Leisure League which consisted of 27 participants from Coral Leisure Clubs nationwide but it was the Dunmore man who showed his years of Fantasy experience to trounce the field. Tuam also had two high place finishers with Keith Holian finishing third and Micheal Turner coming a very respectable sixth in his very first attempt at Fantasy Football. Well done Niall bringing the trophy to Tuam and a big thanks to Barry in Ballinasloe for organising the league which proved a huge success and the first of many i would say.
